Texture in the Ice







What caught my eye was the way the oak leaf had "melted" into the snowy ice in the backyard.

The darkness of the leaf had absorbed the warm rays from the sun, and it was slowly making an imprint of itself.

I didn't notice until I was processing the image that the snow had a most unique texture.

The week of rain and thawing has made the snow have an almost granular texture.

I love the little surprises that aren't always visible when I take the image and are discovered while processing them.

Kind of like a new treasure!

ABC Wednesday - B is for Bottle

B is for Bottle............







This little bottle stands about 5 inches high.

It is made of frosted blue glass and is in the shape of a pineapple.

It usually stands in one of my windows - the light from it makes it glow a most beautiful blue.

It must have been used to hold perfume at one time - I can't think of what else might go in it.

The saw horses were put under the Burning Bush before the snow arrived.

They are almost covered now, as is most of the bush.

But the little red berries on this plant stand out so nicely against the whiteness of the snow.

We are getting quite a bit of rain right now which is very unusual for January, so I expect most of this snow will "shrink" down.

And then turn into an ice block as the temps plunge back down to normal.

An old New England phrase comes to mind: If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute, it will change.

ABC Wednesday - A is for Antenna

A is for Antenna............







So we begin again with another round of ABC Wednesday. This has been a great meme that has been a lot of fun for over three years now.

On to today's post - A is for antenna - a car antenna that is.

Looking closely at the photo, you can see the shadow of the almost buried antenna in the snow.

There are several cars lined up beside each other, and you can see that the snow doesn't go down along the side of the car, it is even with the one next to it.

That is a stupid amount of snow - and it is quite heavy to boot.

Now, if Mother Nature would give us a few days above freezing, it would at least shrink it down a bit.

Oh well, spring will arrive in about 8 1/2 weeks - and I can't wait!

Cabin in the Spring - My World







My last post showed this same cabin covered in snow.

There are several other posts through the years on this blog that feature this cabin also.

This photo was taken in the very early spring, before all the beautiful green grass appeared.

In fact, if you look closely, you can see little brown tufts on the ground.

Those are mole hills and they were everywhere around these cabins that spring.

The photo with the snow certainly has a lot more charm and appeal.

I have posted many photos of this cabin in the past, but this is the first one I have posted with the snow.

This is a former boy scout campground that is now maintained and owned by the town.

But they only maintain it during the summer.

Getting to it this time of the year is tricky.

It's not far from the road, but walking through thigh deep snow can be an experience.

This is as close as I could get, the trek was wearing me out, and my camera almost took snow dives a couple of times.

It is a beautiful spot though no matter what time of the year.

ABC Wednesday - Z is for Zucchini

Z is for Zucchini............







I'm late in posting my ABC post today, but there is a reason for that.

I had a very hard time finding a topic for this letter.

I had no photos of anything Z, they had all been used before in the previous ABC rounds.

So, I figured I would pick up a couple of oranges at the store today, and do "zest".

Never made it down town to the market, so I was back to square one.

But my Z topic was in my refrigerator the whole time, and it only took the preparations for dinner for it to finally dawn on me.

Preparing a stir fry, I started slicing my first ingredient.

And there was my Z - zucchini.

I think I need a vacation or something - the thinker was certainly not with it today!
