Wordless Wednesday - Friday Edition - Gushing Water

Wordless Wednesday - Friday Edition - Gushing Water

gushing water with much force

I haven't done a Wordless Wednesday post in quite a while, so here is today's entry for the Friday Edition.

Can you guess what this water is gushing from?

It was taken last spring, right before the ice went out on the lake.

It looks small in the photo, but it really wasn't.

Very loud and with such force - it was scary yet exciting to be there.

Let me know what you think - the answer will be coming in another post!

Wordless Wednesday - Saturday Edition - Bridge Reflections

Bridge Reflections

an old bridge reflecting in the river

The boys were enjoying a few minutes of fishing in the river.

I carefully climbed down the steep side to get lower than the bridge so I could catch its reflection in the water.

It's an old one - quite rusty from years of rain - but it's character was reflected nicely in the water.

Cars use this bridge now, but years ago it was used by only trains to cross this little river.

The tracks were torn up many years ago.

This bridge is the only the evidence that they were ever there.

Wordless Wednesday - Friday Edition - Nature's Curves

Nature's Curves

an old house with boarded up windows

One of my favorite things to do at the ocean is to walk along the shore - but not the smooth beachy areas that most people prefer.

Don't get me wrong - I love the smooth beaches along the water's edge - but there are usually way too many people around.

Walking along the rockier, more untamed areas, one can find treasure - nature's gifts that are undisturbed as most people don't like the rocks, seaweed, or broken and crushed shells.

The outgoing tide left little tunnels in the sand - each little stream finding it own direction and creating these beautiful curves.

The camera cannot do justice to all the details that were there.

If it wasn't for the rocks and the little patches of seaweed, the water would have ran in a straight line right down to the ocean's edge, and this little treasure would not have been created.

And if there had been people walking around this area - one footstep would have obliterated it.

Glad I was able to catch it before the tide came back in and erased it forever.

Wordless Wednesday - Tuesday Edition - Busy Bridge

Busy Bridge

I did a post a couple of days ago that featured a view I had sitting on the rocks in the bay while the boys fished for Stripers.

I mentioned that I would show the view when I looked to the left while sitting in that same spot.

It is a bridge that stretches across the bay - actually it is two bridges.

The one nearest us is the newer one. The one with all the interesting arches and fancy metal work is the old one that is no longer in use.

I believe the old one can be used for foot traffic, but the highways surrounding it make it hard to get to it by walking. Years ago after the new one was built, I remember seeing people fishing on the old one, but I haven't seen any in the last couple of years.

I can remember they were only allowed to fish towards the ends of the bridge as this is a busy thoroughfare for boats and there couldn't be fishing lines hanging in the way as they went under.

I used my kit lens on this shot as it has the widest angle of any of my lenses. It was taken on the 28mm setting, and it still didn't capture the whole structure.

The sky was absolutely gorgeous that day - Mother Nature certainly put on a show - the beautiful clouds and water were the finishing touches!

Wordless Wednesday - Thursday Edition - Driving Range

Watering the Driving Range

sprinklers on a golf driving range

We stopped one hot afternoon at the driving range to drive a bucket of golf balls.

There were sprinklers on the far end of the range watering the green.

You can't see them in the photo, but there were many birds taking advantage of the cool falling water.

They were having a grand time flying through the spray and flitting around under them.

With all the golf balls flying around that place, I was amazed that none of them were hit by a stray ball.
