Puppy Profile

We got this little sweetheart of a puppy dog about a year and half ago when she was six months old.

She is a Yorkie-poo, a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a small Poodle.

We had a large breed dog many years ago right after we were married, and he lived to be thirteen.

He has been gone for over twenty years, and I wasn't so certain I really wanted another dog.

All the shedding, the smell, the care, and expense of a large animal wasn't something I really looked forward to at this point in our lives.

I always figured cats were the way to go for a pet - they were better able to care for themselves, and a purring kitty is very calming and soothing.

But then, I met, Mya.

She's tiny - about 12 pounds.

She has hair, not fur, so she doesn't shed.

Her weekly showers keep her ever so soft and oh so clean.

She follows us everywhere - inside and out.

Going for a ride is one of her favorite things.

And she is most entertaining in her playing and prancing about.

Those bright eyes and that wagging plume of a tail show us her love.

This little soul makes me laugh, and brings such joy into our lives.

I really don't know how we got along without her all these years.

She is such a gem, and a more perfect match for our home could not be found.

Life is good with this little puppy dog!

Baby Goats

The little farm of my daughter's is growing.

Chickens and rabbits and goats have been added over the past year, and now that spring has arrived, the babies are coming too.

The hens are brooding on their eggs.

The rabbits are still separated at this time.

But the goats have been the center of attention for the last few weeks.

There has been a set of twin girls and two single births that were each male.

Two of the mamas were first timers - as was my daughter to all of this.

She was nervous about it - but those mama goats handled it all themselves without any problems.

The little baby goats are so cute and full of life as they hop around and play.

There are two more ladies who will be delivering their babies next month.

Her little herd is increasing at just the right pace for her to handle.

The chickens are next to have their babies.

And those little peeps will be just as cute as those baby goats!

Another Winter for Rusty

Each winter I fear will be his last.

But with his determination and spirit, he always makes it through.

Rusty, our pet feral cat, came to us over 14 years, that we can figure.

Actually I think he has been around longer than that, as I remember our pet cat chasing him out of the yard, and he has been gone for over 15 years.

He refuses to come in the house - the wild in him just won't allow it.

But he is with us every time we step outside.

He follows us to get the mail, to shovel the snow, or just to walk around the house.

If we are working outside, he will be laying beside us, keeping us company and purring all the while.

He permits a pat, just barely tolerates being picked up, but when the brush comes around, he can't get enough of it.

He has put his winter heft and thick coat of fur back on.

And he is still at the door every morning and evening - he is not about to miss a meal.

We will continue our care for him as long as he wants to stay around.

And from the look of him, I believe he will make it through another tough New England winter.

ABC Wednesday - S is for Savory

The aromas around the house today have been just the best.

And tomorrow and the next day they are going to be just as good as today's.

The savory smells coming from the oven have had our mouths watering all day.

Preparing for the Thanksgiving Day meal might be a big job, but it is certainly one that is appreciated by the nose.

And the tastebuds will be too happy to have their turn on the big day.

Busy Busy Times

I know there is no excuse for the few posts lately - but I really have been quite busy

Too many irons in the fire is how it goes, and I think it will be staying this way for a while.

We are making plans for a move - hopefully in a year's time.

We work out of our home and have more than just our home things to think about.

Once we get it under control, then the looking for a new place can begin.

Over thirty years we have been in this spot, so it will be a change for sure.

And sometimes changes are hard.

But this one is just what we have been working towards all these years.

To be closer to the ocean that we love so much.

Enough for now - back to work I go!

ABC Wednesday - H is for Hand

This was taken during my grandson's 1st birthday and he was really enjoying it - cake and frosting was everywhere.

Hard to believe that he is now over 2 1/2 and heading for another birthday in just a few months.

He loves to sit with me on the computer and look at photos - especially when they have people he knows in them.

Next time he comes I must remember to show him this one.

He will not be impressed with the mess - he doesn't like them and let's us know all about them when they are around.

I wonder what his thoughts will be when he finds out that that messy hand is his.

ABC Wednesday - U is for Unblinking

U is for Unblinking..........




 

He stares straight ahead.

Unblinking.

Totally ignoring the black clicking thing that sometimes gets too close for his liking.

 Not letting anything get to him, he held this pose as I closed in on him.

He could only stand it for so long though.

After the click, he just had to get up and leave.

I do appreciate the cooperation that he so sparingly bestows on me though.

Every once in a while I can get a decent photo of our feral cat, Rusty.

ABC Wednesday - J is for Jabber

  

J is for Jabber..........




 We have had a visitor these last few days. Our 21 month old grandson. It has been such a joy to have him here - playing and caring for him. One of his favorite things to do - stand in the door and jabber to the kitty on the porch. Rusty squints his eyes in appreciation of the attention then curls back up on his pillow to take a nap. A passing bee then catches the little boy's attention, and he is off jabbering again about his find. We are going to miss him when he goes home tomorrow. But that just gives us a reason to take a trip up to see him and his Mom and Dad.

The Next Generation

The Next Generation

My son is taking a photography course for one of his college electives this semester.

And I think I am more excited than he is.

He has asked for my help, but it isn't just the whole subject matter that has me excited.

I get to spend time with him.

Not too much of that goes on these days.

School, a couple of jobs, and a girlfriend takes just about all the time he has.

So when he asks for help - it will the first thing on my list to do.

Passing on all we can to the next generation - it's the best!

ABC Wednesday - C is for Cat

  

C is for Cat...........




 He made it through the winter. And this is how he has been spending most of his summer. Under the shade of a tarp with the green grass to keep his underside cool. When the sun heats up the porch, we will find him here, just a couple of feet away from the porch steps. He has thinned out quite a bit this season. This feral cat has been around for about ten years now. We has gotten quite frail lately so we are already worrying about the winter again. We will continue to help our Rusty as long as he lets us.

Out of Hibernation

Out of Hibernation

The boys have taken the motorcycles out of their winter quarters.

 

It took a bit of priming and coaxing, but they finally started with their freshly charged batteries.

 

My son's only needed a bit of a tune-up, and he just got back with her from her first ride of the season.

 

Ours is going to need some work before she is ready to go.

 

A new front tire is in order, and some work with her electrical parts and motor is also on the list.

 

It will take some time, but as the cooler days turn warmer, she should be ready to welcome us into summer.

  I had to laugh. We made a big purchase this past week on something we hadn't done since we were first married. And my, have there been changes since then! Our new bed mattress and box spring were delivered today, and they are sure different from the ones they hauled away. This set is high - so high my legs swing in the air when I sit on the side of the bed. My husband's first words - we are sleeping closer to the ceiling tonight - look, my foot can almost touch it. An exaggeration for sure, but I'm worried about the middle of the night bathroom run, and not being able to find the floor! 

Kitty Update

Kitty Update







We have an update on the kitty that I posted about in my last post.

The little newcomer would let us get just close enough to pat the top of her head but nothing more.

If we bent down at all, she was off in a flash.

What probably didn't help was that any time we were paying any kind of attention to her, Rusty would be right by our side - wanting the attention too.

Keep in mind that he is a very independent feral cat - around at meal time and gone the rest of the time.

We never saw so much of him as when the kitty was here.

But he was pretty patient with her considering she was his competition.

My son came home one evening around 10 pm, and there was the kitty on the steps.

She didn't run away or protest at all when he bent to read her tag with his flashlight.

It had the name "Boots" with a phone number under it engraved on the front.

We called the number and the neighbors, about a 1/3 of a mile down the road said she had been missing for about a week.

She was only 4 months old, and they said they thought she was a he, but they weren't sure.

Figured they would know once they got her fixed.

I am thinking she must have wandered off and got lost.

Glad she was reunited with her family!

Both of the boys were out there at the end of the breaker wall when we visited the ocean earlier this summer.

I can usually get about half way down this wall, then the large rocks start getting just a bit too far apart for my liking.

I'm not the nimble youngster I used to be, but that is not the problem.

It's those large spaces with nothing in between them that I have to step over.

The fear sets in, and I immediately sit down on the rock I'm on.

Don't want to fall with my camera gear - those spaces make me dizzy.

After a pep-talk of mind over matter, I try again.

A couple more rocks, and another sit-down.

This has been going on for at least a half an hour now.

My son has been back a couple of times to help me - he literally runs down these rocks to me.

I envy that and tell him, I'm getting there - I'll wave when I need help.

Most times I never make it down to the end.

But this past time, I did.

And I will have photos in future posts to prove it!

ABC Wednesday - Q is for Quiet

Quiet is what I had to be when I took this photo of my little grandson who was sound asleep.

Those little hands are always so busy and capturing them during nap time was the only way I was going to get them.

It only lasted for a couple of frames though - the camera just has to be so noisy when it takes a photo.

He did go back to sleep again with that little hand all closed up beside his face.

Good thing we got it when we did!

Fixing a Motorcycle

Fixing a Motorcycle







Not this one - it is beyond fixing.

My son has been working on his senior project for graduation, and he decided to fix a damaged motorcycle and make it roadable again.

Well, it has taken almost a year, as it must for this project, and today he took his first ride alone on it.

He did a beautiful job with his Dad as his mentor and advisor during the fixing of it.

He wants pictures - but at a certain place, so we have to wait until he is ready to bring it there.

Then we can show them off!

A photo from a past spring - even with the early warmth, Easter is too early this year to have the daffodils blooming.

It won't be long though as the flower pods have begun to emerge alongside the leaves.

Every so many years, my daughter's birthday falls on Easter, and this year she turns 21.

A special day for my girl, and a most blessed one for me when I laid eyes on my first born those many years ago.
