W is for Wishbone.............
I am not sure of the customs in other countries, but in the US, the wishbone has a tradition.
After it has been removed from the cooked chicken or turkey, it is left to dry.
Once dried, two people will make a wish and wrap their pinkie finger around each side.
They pull with their fingers until the bone breaks, and the person with the larger piece will have their "wish granted".
My kids used to love to do the wishbone, just as we did when we were children.
We have the same tradition here
ReplyDeleteIt´s not tradition were I live (in sweden) as I know it anyway. But I think most people now about it though through films and tv.
ReplyDeleteWell that is a nice tradition. I have no idea if we have the same tradition in Holland.
ReplyDeleteHello again - I loved the wishbone as a child, but hated to wait for it to dry to get my wish. I remember convincing my mom or dad to help me make my wish only to have it bend and not break. I invite you to come see my W if for woodpecker contribution. -- Margy
ReplyDeleteHere too!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, so artistically presented.
P.S. Dont think there is such a word as artistically.......so just read it as artistic & well presented! LOL!
ReplyDeleteKathy, know all about the wishbone, lol, btw wow how clean that bone is, some one was hungry, lol. Very nice photo in deed, Anna :)
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in Scotland, my grandmother was very competitive with the wishbone.
ReplyDeleteSame in France & Italy...
ReplyDeletePerfect choice for W. Never entered my mind. Love the simple photo of it with the slight shadow.
ReplyDeleteMy kids always loved that tradition too.
I've heard of that but never tried... =(
ReplyDeleteTraditions are quite wonderful. And the pic says it all.
ReplyDeleteI always like your ABC Wednesday posts, Kathy, because you have such a knack for thinking of something clever to photograph for each letter. The wishbone is perfect.
