This shot was taken last spring and there is so much snow still on the ground this year, it will hard to find this sight any time soon.

So looking forward to spring arriving!

ABC Wednesday - J is for Jagged

(The Wordless Wednesday post is beneath this post.)

J is for Jagged .......

macro of a rock texture with jagged pattern

The surface texture of a rock is a very boring subject.

I like to take macros of them though, as they make nice backgrounds and are good sellers for stock.

I found this rock quite interesting as it was all black with a strip of white running though it - and no seams where they are joined.

Some powerful forces created this one many centuries ago, then placed this giant boulder along the ocean shore.

The stories they could tell!

Haunted House

Haunted House

two brick chimneys on an old boarded-up house

One evening, the boys wanted to do some salt water fishing in the bay instead of the open ocean.

They decided to go to an out of the way place that the locals call, Bloody Point.

It didn't sound too appetizing to me with a name like that, but always eager to explore new places, I trailed along with them.

The boys carried their fishing gear, and I had my camera gear, and we headed down a dirt path that grew darker as the trees closed in around us.

I could see this house from a distance and I didn't like idea of the windows being boarded up as they were, after all, we were at Bloody Point.

It was a very old wooden house dating back to the colonial times that this area is well-known for.

The hairs were rising on my arms as I read the KEEP OUT sign on the door - not that anybody in their right mind would go in there anyway.

As we passed the house, I turned back for another look, and the way the sun was lighting the upper half of the building took away the spooky feeling long enough to catch a few images.

Quickly running to catch up with the boys, I found the path had turned steep and rocky, but it had opened up to an ocean view with a perfect spot to sit and fish as the tide continued to rise.

We spent a couple hours there as the sun grew lower in sky, and walking in the dusk, past that spooky house, made me never so happy to see our car!

ABC Wednesday - I

(The Wordless Wednesday post is beneath this post.)

I is for Insulin .......

a syringe and a bottle of insulin

Insulin injections are a daily part of life for a person with diabetes.

My Mom was 17 when she was diagnosed with this disease, and we grew up with the knowledge of her having daily injections.

By the time I was 10, she had taught me how to give her her shots, and even now, 40 years later, I still get weak knees when I give them to her.

Since she has Type 1 diabetes, she will never be free from these needles. What used to be one a day many years ago has turned into five or six a day depending on her glucose readings.

This disease runs rampant in my family, and when having children, I was so worried for them.

Watching my Mom, though, helped me realize that this treatable disease can be managed and one can still live a full life.

Happy St Patrick's Day

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

macro od bubles in a green glass globe

I was looking for a more traditional image to post for St Patrick's Day, but my portfolio seems to be lacking in that area.

I found the most green image I have for this day of the "wearing of the green".

It is a macro shot of a green colored glass ball that has bubbles of all sizes suspended in it.

It sits in my window and is most beautiful when the sunlight is coming through it.

The Flu has Arrived

The Flu

a purple stethoscope isolated against white

The flu has arrived at our house with a vengeance.

My son unknowingly escorted it through the door and it made his life miserable for over a week.

My husband was the next victim, and after four days he is still having the chills and sweats that go with along with the fever.

The coughing is wearing them out as it settles into their chests.

As the chief cook, caretaker, and comforter, I fear my days are numbered.

I'm hoping I can escape it with all the hand washing and sanitizing - but a scratchy throat has been nagging me all day. Time will tell!

ABC Wednesday - H

(The Wordless Wednesday post is beneath this post.)

H is for Huddle .......

silver cross with celtic caarvings

The boys high school Lacrosse team huddles to discuss the next game tactics.

After raising their lacrosse sticks and giving a shout for team spirit, they take up their positions on the field.

I never realized just how aggressive this game is until I watched them play.

Green Thumb Sunday - Overgrown Driftwood

Overgrown Driftwood for Green Thumb Sunday

The last couple of weeks I have been posting about a view from the rocks at the ocean.

This week's post features a shot of what was on the other side of the rocks.

This old, weathered piece of driftwood was tossed way up on land by the waves during a storm.

It has almost been completely overgrown by the weeds and plants that flourish along this stretch of the coast.

Just to the right of this scene, it turns quickly into a thicket of bushes with thorns and one of my worst plant enemies - poison ivy. I swear I break out with a rash just by looking at it!

ABC Wednesday - G

G is for Green Globe .......

frosted green glass globe with reflection

I was taking some stock photos of a couple of frosted globes made of crystal.

The white one was sitting in the sun when I noticed the shadows that the continents were casting on the background as the sun was shining through it.

I used a green colored filter in photoshop to cast the glow over the top of the globe.

If I had used the green globe, then the reflection would have been green, and I think, less effective than the white.

Overcast Morning at the Ocean

Overcast Morning

overcast morning at the ocean breaker wall

This image was taken this past summer on a trip to the ocean. You probably recognize this area from past posts as it is one of our favorite places on the seacoast.

The boys spend time fishing while I comb the area for photos. It doesn't matter how many times we return to this same spot, new photos always await me.

Since joining Entrecard a couple of months ago, I have discovered many new blogs and have had many return visitors to my blog.

I would like to thank all my new readers, and each month, I will be posting a link to the website of the top 10 visitors through Entrecard.
