ABC Wednesday - G is for Gull

G is for Gull..........

a lone sea gull walking on the beach

This gull had the whole beach to himself, besides us of course.

The day was so hot, I wonder if the cool water and wet sand felt as good on his feet as it did on ours.

Our presence didn't bother him - I am sure he is quite used to having people around.

But when those dogs start coming around, as they usually do at this beach, I am sure he is no where to be found.

I was actually pretty glad they weren't there too - the camera doesn't go well with shaking wet dogs that are only too eager to visit.

ABC Wednesday - F is for Fence

F is for Fence..........

yellow daisies poking through the fence

Poking through the fence along the park border, these bright yellow flowers caught my eye.

They made a pretty contrast against the white of the fence.

So cheerful they were, they made me smile as I captured them with my camera.

This is another shot from Prescott Park in Portsmouth.

ABC Wednesday - E is for Entrance

E is for Entrance..........

entrance to a flower garden park

The white gate stood wide open at the entrance.

The brick pathway led the way in.

These beautiful gardens were established in 1954 with funds set aside in a trust by the Prescott sisters in Portsmouth, NH.

I grew up in this area in the early seventies and have seen considerable changes in this area since those days.

These beautiful gardens have always remained well kept and presented through the years.

I love this historical district in this historic city and it never fails to bring back the memory of my dear grandmother and my younger years with her here.

Counting Birds - Our World

Counting Birds - Our World

barred owl in a tree during a snowstorm

It is that time of the year again here in the US.

This weekend is the time to count the birds in our backyard.

The Audubon Society has set aside this weekend for their Great Backyard Bird Count.

I used to participate in this count many years ago, and I am glad I ran across it on the internet.

And I am glad I found it in time and didn't miss it.

My owl was around last winter, so unless he comes around this weekend, I won't be able to count him.

I really enjoy my birds, and adding what I have around here so the society can track the trends is a good thing.

If you are interested, be sure to check out my links - make your birds count too!

ABC Wednesday - D is for Dragonfly

D is for Dragonfly..........

a green dragonfly on the rocks

He flew around my head several times, and I was surprised to see what a beautiful color he was when he finally landed.

Of course, I didn't have my camera at the time, so I went running inside to get it.

I was happy to see that he kept to the same area when I got back outside.

He finally settled down, and slowly I crept up on him as not to frighten him.

Not exactly the pose or as close as I would have liked to photograph him in, but I was happy to capture his beautiful color nonetheless.

Savings for Rusty Too

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have written about Rusty many times on my blog.

He is our feral cat that adopted us several years ago.

We have no idea how old he is, but I remember seeing one of our cats chasing him down the driveway many years ago.

That cat has been gone for eleven years now, so we can only guess Rusty's age to be over that.

He is a tough one, fattening himself up in the winter and skinnying himself out once the warmer weather comes around.

The fact that he never misses a meal though has nothing to do with that fattening up part.

He has certainly become a part of our family - even my little grandson loves to stand in the door and "talk" to Rusty.

And it is good to know that the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens will take care of his medications too if he gets sick.

This plan costs $35 a year for a family to join, and it includes a spouse, dependents 22 and younger, and the family pets.  Individual plans are $20 a year.

Saving even more money on generic medications is an incentive in itself with this plan, but you also save on flu shots, nebulizers, and diabetic supplies.

Purchasing Walgreens brand products saves even more and earns bonuses as well.

ABC Wednesday - C is for Chain

C is for Chain..........

a chain coming out of the grass

There it was, in the middle of the grassy area, just coming out of the ground.

No idea what it was attached to, or what attached to it.

I wonder how many times the mower had a run-in with it.

From the rusty look of it, I would say it has been there quite a while.

If I ever get back to that particular area, I will be sure to check it out again - perhaps it will actually be in use.
