Orange Salamander - My World

Orange Salamander - My World

an orange salamander under the leaves

Technically, this isn't the greatest shot.

I found this little guy - who is about 2 inches long, under the leaves of my hosta plant this past summer.

It was so hot outside, and it was evening, so there was no light under those big leaves.

I was just getting ready to water the garden, and I saw him between the leaves.

My husband held a light and I got down as close as I could and snapped a few shots.

I didn't notice until I was working on the images, there are two slugs right next to him.

I don't think he was going to eat them - they are way bigger than him, but I had to laugh that I didn't see them at the time.

He kept moving, and I just wanted to get a decent enough photo of him.

I love to see these little salamanders in the garden - I know they are helping to keep the bug population down.

The more the merrier!

  1. I didn't know there WAS such a thing as orange salamanders! I found a gray/black/green one under the tarp at the hay bales one morning and picked him up to move him to the garden where he'd be safe from the critters.
