ABC Wednesday - A is for Anchor

A is for Anchor............

view through the old fort

A big rusty old anchor.

The anchor is a historical piece and it is located in a park beside the ocean near the historic Strawbery Banke.

It is considered a memorial in remembrance of all the souls that have been lost at sea.

I grew up right beside this park many years ago, and this anchor has always been there.

It is surrounded by beautiful gardens, and once a year there is a ceremony to honor these people.

This is the seventh round of ABC Wednesday. If you would like to join in please visit this site for the details.

  1. It looks like a lovely place to grow up.

  2. You know, though they are enormously heavy and very big, I still look at anchors and wonder how the heck they could stop something as large as a ship. When you consider the intertia, it's quite a feat!

  3. A fine looking anchor. We are an oceangoing family. Used to be sailing, but now we are limited to cruises once in a while. Our next one will be in October -- 30 days with 11 days at sea. We like being at sea more than most sight seeing.

  4. Love anchors. Love the idea of anchoring something, physically or metaphorically.

  6. Some modern anchors are now in the "megaton" class, but anchors like these can still be seen in smaller crafts along our coast.

    They have saved many lives.

  9. Beautiful anchor. Good choice of A-word! Nice that it is something that you have grown up with too.

Thank you for visiting my A-post about the apples. Yes, the apple tree did smell heavenly back in May with all the blossoms! Thanks for your comment!
    Best wishes,

  10. Anchors always have attracted me, I think, like someone above said it reminds me of anchoring into life, physically and metaphorically. Great shot.
