Texture in the Ice

Texture in the Ice

an oak leaf melting into the winter snow

What caught my eye was the way the oak leaf had "melted" into the snowy ice in the backyard.

The darkness of the leaf had absorbed the warm rays from the sun, and it was slowly making an imprint of itself.

I didn't notice until I was processing the image that the snow had a most unique texture.

The week of rain and thawing has made the snow have an almost granular texture.

If you click on the image, it will bring you to my website where you can click on the photo there to view a larger image.

The snow and leaf details will be much more visible.

I love the little surprises that aren't always visible when I take the image and are discovered while processing them.

Kind of like a new treasure!

  2. That's one of the joys of photography, isn't it? Capturing those little details - while figuring out, through exposure, cropping, white balancing, focus, and gut feeling, the absolute best way to do it. It's a lovely shot.
