Overgrown Driftwood for Green Thumb Sunday

The last couple of weeks I have been posting about a view from the rocks at the ocean.

This week's post features a shot of what was on the other side of the rocks.

This old, weathered piece of driftwood was tossed way up on land by the waves during a storm.

It has almost been completely overgrown by the weeds and plants that flourish along this stretch of the coast.

Just to the right of this scene, it turns quickly into a thicket of bushes with thorns and one of my worst plant enemies - poison ivy. I swear I break out with a rash just by looking at it!

I really like these type of images,I've heard a lot about this 'poison ivy'but never seen it, just as well by the sounds of things.

  4. I love driftwood in the garden. I also love going out to the rivers and beaches to collect it, so then it adds nice memories to the garden.

  5. Lovely picture.

I read somewhere that poison ivy actually spits. I forget what triggers it, but I do remember reading that it "spitting" accounts for people who claim to get it just by looking at it. Made sense to me. I've never had a reaction from it, but I stay away from it - far away!

  6. Another great photo, Kathy. We don't have poison ivy here for some reason. Too hot I'd guess. I know it grows in the northern part of our state where it's cooler. I understand the rash can be miserable. Happy GTS,

  9. Mark - poison ivy = mad itching, swelling, oozing, and going out of your mind! Massive allergic skin reactions!

  10. I like to collect driftwood too - all shapes and sizes - I like to paint on them.

  11. Hi Judi - the plant is covered with an oil - that's what makes you itch. I think that can be blown by the wind or splashed when wet too. It's out to get us in any way it can!

  12. Very nice composition, Kathy. With all those natural materials self-arranged, you caught the total picture at a nice angle.
