Most Popular Photos

Most Popular Photo

sleeping cat is most popular image

I have a voting system in place on my website that allows the viewer to rate my photos.

All the images that have been rated, are shown on the Most Popular page, which is a link along the top of every page on the website.

While browsing through the images, the viewer will notice a "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" when they hover over the photo. Clicking on one of them rates the image.

The photo above of the Sleeping Kitty has held the number one spot for many weeks now. Another image of him holds the number three spot as of this posting.

It has been interesting these last few months to see the images change positions as my viewers rate them.

I like to watch when a new one appears on the end and makes it's way up the line.

Clicking on any of the photos in any of my blog posts will bring you to my website where you can also vote.

It also shows you a larger view of the image which really brings out the details.

I encourage you to vote and thank you for all the votes you have made already!

ABC Wednesday - F

(The Wordless Wednesday post is beneath this post.)

F is for Faith .......

silver cross with celtic caarvings

This silver cross pendant is made of fine silver.

It has the most beautiful design pattern embossed on both sides of it.

It reminds me of a Celtic design.

The flared ends also have intricate carvings.

I used several backgrounds, including a black velvet, but the grain of the linen fabric seemed best suited with the silver.

I also experimented with an all white, but the shadow leading into the image gives it more atmosphere.

The bare white is desirable for stock images, but I'm keeping this one more artistic.

Green Thumb Sunday - Rock Scape

Rock Scape for Green Thumb Sunday

Last week's post had us sitting on the rocks at the ocean.

Today I am posting a wider view of those weeds growing in the rocks above me.

The storm clouds are still passing over in this shot and they give a dramatic feel to this image.

I do wish I had used a smaller aperture for the depth of field, that way all the rocks in the foreground would be in focus too.

ABC Wednesday - E

(The Wordless Wednesday post is beneath this post.)

E is for Eggshells .......

broken white eggshells in an egg crate

A busy morning of baking used the rest of the eggs in the carton.

I usually buy brown eggs, so upon seeing these white eggshells against the gray, I was enticed to grab a shot.

My family is used to seeing the camera appear at the most odd times, so ignoring their sighs and exasperations, I captured these broken eggshells before they were tossed into the trash.

After viewing the finished image, I think I like the texture of the carton better then the broken eggs!

Green Thumb Sunday - Weeds Against the Sky

Weeds Against the Sky for Green Thumb Sunday

Back to the days of summer with this post.

I was sitting down on the rocks at the ocean, and upon turning around, back towards the shore, I spotted a patch of weeds growing out of the rocks above me.

The clouds had just cleared and the green color looked quite striking against the blue sky.

Upon a closer inspection of them, they had tiny little white flowers along the length of the stalk, so I think they are some type of wildflower.

Next season, I will spend an extra minute checking them out to find what kind they are.

D is for Dartboard .......

a well used red and white dart board

A macro shot of a well used dart board.

The red and white sections create a neat pattern, and the many holes give it character.

I am not sure how the numbers along the side work in the point scoring system, but they have their share of holes in them too.

Green Thumb Sunday - Beaver Lodge

Beaver Lodge for Green Thumb Sunday

Green Thumb Sunday Blogroll

How to join Green Thumb Sunday

For the last couple of weeks, I have been posting about a hike through a swamp, and about a tree that a beaver had gnawed down.

This will be the last post on the beaver, I promise.

The above image is of the beaver's house, or lodge.

It looks like a mass of sticks just piled together in the water, but there is really quite a network that he has built under the water that we can't see.

He places the trees just so, and the entrance to his home is nowhere near the lodge - it starts quite a ways from it - almost like a tunnel of sticks and trees under the water.

He builds several of these tunnels - it is always nice to have an escape route if needed.

Since this was out in the middle of the swamp, this was as close as I could get to it.

Many years ago I stood on top of a lodge that was built right next to a dam that a beaver had also built.

No camera at that time, but the underwater network he had built was amazing.

The "Busy as a beaver" saying takes on a whole new meaning after viewing all they accomplish with just their teeth and paws as tools!

In Need of Summer

Summer at the Driving Range

the golf driving range in the summer

After four winter storms this week, and another one coming tomorrow, we are in serious need of a reminder of summer.

I remember this day being a very hot July afternoon, and the boys wanted to stop at the driving range to drive some golf balls.

Always aware that a stray ball could come flying my way, I scooted to the end of the green to capture the neat arc of the stalls.

One thing I did notice though, all the people must be right handed, as none were facing me to drive the balls with their left hands.

ABC Wednesday - C

(The Wordless Wednesday post is beneath this post.)

C is for Coneflowers .......

mauve colored coneflowers with green leaves

I was drawn instantly to the beautiful mauve color of these pretty Coneflowers.

Set against the deep green leaves, with their centers so full and perfect, I just couldn't resist them.

Notice the dark gray sky behind them - I had just enough time to snap these little beauties before Mother Nature sent us a whooping summer thunder storm.

Be sure to check out my Wordless Wednesday post beneath this one - the image was taken about half an hour after this one. Love that special light that only comes around after storms!

Green Thumb Sunday - Busy Beaver

Busy Beaver for Green Thumb Sunday

For the last couple of weeks, I have been posting about a hike through a swamp.

Last week's post showed a tree that a beaver had gnawed down.

This week's post shows a close up of the beaver's handiwork.

You can see how he just kept circling the tree as he gnawed away on it until if just got so thin that the tree toppled over.

If you view the larger image, you can see the actual teeth marks that he made.

It really is a work of art in itself!

Welcome to Entrecard Visitors

Welcome

a wrought iron welcome sign hanging by a chain

On January 11, I joined Entrecard and put the "Drop Yours" widget on my sidebar.

This site is only a couple months old, and it is quickly becoming a thriving social network.

It is a great tool for beginning bloggers, and seasoned bloggers can also benefit by the added exposure it can bring.

The object of the program is to visit other members blogs, and "drop" your card onto their widget. You earn credits which you can use to buy ad space on other member's blog for a 24 hour block.

You also earn credits when members visit your site and drop their card. When they buy ad space from you, you earn more credits.

You are in complete control of who advertises on your site and with whom you advertise.

I have had many new visitors these last couple of weeks, and I have also discovered many new blogs with great information on many different topics.

I extend a big Welcome to all the new visitors that Entrecard has brought me and I thank you for the comments and recommendations that you have given me.
