Trail Marker for Green Thumb Sunday

For the last couple of weeks, I have been posting about a hike through a swamp.

The trails are maintained by the Audubon Society, and there are different colored markers posted on trees to mark the trail you are following.

We came upon this tree - gnawed down very nicely by a beaver.

I had to chuckle - that trail marker was pointing in a direction that I was not inclined to follow.

I think he was trying to tell us humans to find another trail and leave this area to him.

  1. Great photo, as usual. Although I traveled the world during my working days, it really amazes me when seeing a simple photo that I've not seen much at all. In all my years, I've never seen a beaver or a beaver dam. I guess this ignorance comes from always living in the desert! Happy GTS,

  3. I have got this image of a beaver laughing in the bushes as us Umans try and follow the markers.I wonder if some of the other animals have been able to turn the other markers around....?

  4. Hi Mark - haha! So far the other makers are still in place - but I will keep my eyes on those woodpeckers - they are a crafty lot!

  5. They are trying to reintroduce beavers to the UK. Is this good or bad?!
Looks as though we will all be going round in circles!!

  6. I bet the next time you go through there that tree will be gone. The beaver will probably haul it away. LOL ... or use it to make a damn. Maybe the new position of the marker is a "caution or under construction" sign. LOL

  9. Tricia - I think he would need a few buddies to help him haul it away - he was quite ambitious when he went after that one!

  15. I looked at the photo before I read your explanation, and I thought, "Gee, that looks like it's been felled by beavers." Heh, and it was! Funny story about the marker. Those animals are NOT dumb.

  18. Narissa - thanks for visiting - and yes, they have very big teeth in the front, and they bite pieces out at a time. You would not believe some of the fat trees I have seen them work on. They are very determined, and size does not stop them. I am always amazed at what they can accomplish!
