ABC Wednesday - K

(The Wordless Wednesday entry is below this one.)

K is for Knitting.......

macro of knitting needles and yarn taking a stitch

My grandmother's hands kept up a rhythmic pace as she deftly wove the yarns into slippers and mittens for her many grandchildren.

I was 8 years old when she taught me this skill and will always remember her patient hands guiding me with the stitches.

My other grandmother made beautiful afghans with her crochet hook, and I was overjoyed when she taught me that skill also.

I was never able to interest my daughter in either art, but someday she will have all my needles and books, and hopefully she will find the joy in them that I have.

  5. Great shot and great story. I wish i had the skill to do this but at 35 I'm only just learning to sew. Its a painful process.

  6. I haven't knitted for years. Used to a lot when I was younger; don't know why I stopped. I was taught by my grandmother too.

  7. I can't knit.
Well, I can KNIT but I can't cast on.
I can not cast off either!
I decrease naturally as I drop stitches.
Apart from that, I am very good! LOL!

  8. I love knitting myself but didn't have much time to do it right now since I'm preggy. Great entry!

Mine is up too. Hope you can visit me :) Have a great Wednesday!

  9. Another great and unusual photo, sure is a skill in itself, the top of the needle reminds me of a snails antennas

  10. My knitting was horrible, but I made quite a few crocheted afghans. I haven't done it in years though, have recently begun machine embroidery which is quite fun actually! Your picture is very pretty, as usual!

  11. Good choice on the yarn color but the curly q of yarn is what makes it for me.

  12. That is a neat post for the K. Lovely picture too. I can't never figure out the knitting as it look too complex for my impatience and I admire at you knowing how to do those -- the results always look magical. My mother in law made few sweaters for my boys and those are priceless.

  13. So what are you knitting there? I can knit too, but only squares, lol. I have difficulties following instructions, but when I try to improvise, the sweater usually has many flaws, good thing it stretches. Once I made Santa pants for myself once, and they only lasted first few minutes, thank god for long jacket, lol. Anna :)

  16. Kathy - another eerie connection we have - I'm a knitter too! :)

  18. Fantastic photo!!! My Mum taught me to knit and an elderly neighbour taught me to crochet way back when I was a young girl. My daughter never seemed interested in learning these wonderful crafts. No doubt, I'll be the one knitting all the baby layettes when she has her first baby as I did for all my children when I was pregnant. lol
