300ZX

A stock image of a gear shifter from a 1986 Nissan 300ZX.

gear shifter on a sports car

She has almost two hundred thousand miles on her now, but she still handles like a dream. Owning her for the last ten years has been a pleasure.

The joy I felt the first time I drove her has not diminished over the years.

As with all sports cars, she has needed more than her share of repairs which has kept her performance and handling smooth and tight.

The New England winters have been hard on her. She is put up as soon as it snows, but no matter how I keep her cleaned off and run regularly, the rust has begun to eat into her frame.

She is to the point that she needs too much work now - more than my husband can do to keep her safely on the road.

Come spring she will have to find a new home - hopefully someone who will have the resources to restore her and will appreciate what this little classic Z car has to offer.

  1. What a beautiful homage to your trusty "steed". It is always hard to say goodbye to a favorite car. It reminds me of an old Beach Boys song about a car named Betsy... Cindy at Rosehaven Cottage

  2. I feel the love, KML. It's going to be hard to let that car go so you better save up for something very special to replace it.

  3. Wow! Those are classics. Hate to see you let it go, but I understand the reasoning. There are a lot of people who are seeking these cars.

  4. Ah, Kathy it's quite sad when you have to part with something that's given you such pleasure over the years. I hope you find someone with a passion for restoration, she deserves it.

  7. Annie - I am thinking of a new lens - not an equal trade - but it would be put to good use.

  8. Rick - she is indeed a classic - and I most worry about her ending up in some young man's hands who will beat on her until she is dead. I have seen too many of those!

  9. WFW - She was a salvage vehicle when my husband bought her. He had purchased an older one months before, and intended to use as or sell it for parts. When he purchased this one, I figured it was just part of his business as always.

When he fixed it for me and said I could keep it - I never have the same car for too long - I was so elated!

The poor man has been trying to keep her together for some time now with gentle reminders that I can't keep her forever.

I am just appreciative that I even had her to drive and I hope someone else will feel the same way.

  10. Fruity - she is a beauty - I think even more so than the newer 350ZX. The older ones have such beautiful lines and curves - styling that would cost way too much for the manufacturers to stamp out today.

  11. I cannot believe you have 300zx - I wouldn't imagine you having that kind of car, lol. However, I know exactly what you are talking about because my friend had one, and I see them all the time on the read, still very stylish. Anna :) BTW nice shot.

  12. Anna - Isn't it funny how we imagine how people are. This forty-something gal still has the same love of life that the 18 year old had - just wish I had the same energy!

  13. I drove a 240SX for some time, and loved that car. Unfortunately we had to part company recently. I do miss that car!

  14. You can't kill a Nissan, I have a Nissan truck in my garage that has over 250,000 miles on it, it is a little rusty in places but I still haul stuff around in it.

  15. kml-

sorry for messaging you here, but I could not find an email link. I love your blog. We need more artists in the world sharing their ideas, techniques and promotion strategies.

I represent the arts advocacy site, TalentDatabase.com, which allows artists the ability to list themselves and create a web portal of their art which can link to their other web sites. I want to invite you to come try out the site (it is free and only takes a few minutes to get up and running).

I’d love to hear what you think. Please email me at gabriel@talentdatabase.com

    warmly,

  20. I don't know which I like more -- the photo, or your colorful description of 'her.' You're going to miss her when she goes...

  21. Bobbie - Isn't is funny how cars are referred to as "she". I'm even weirder - mine all get names.
